This position is responsible for assisting and providingdirect services to low risk and high risk pregnant women and their familiesthroughout the childbearing process. This position is accountable forperforming medical acts as allowed by law and regulations governing NurseMidwives. In addition, this position provides education and preceptor supportfor residents and students of advance practice nursing and medicine.EDUCATION:
Graduation from an approved Nurse Midwifery programLICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
BLS (CPR) | AHA Health Care Provider BLS
ACLS | Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support
Must maintain valid NC RN and Nurse Midwife licenseESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Provides individualized, family centered care to low and highrisk pregnant women and their families throughout the childbearing processwithin the hospital or outpatient offices. Facilitate open communication amongthe patient, physician, hospital/office staff and the midwife.
Precept residents, midwifery students, NP students, medicaland PA students.
Provide education for childbearing women and theirsignificant others in order to enhance their understanding of the childbirthprocess and to assist them in establishing effective coping mechanisms duringthe stress of labor, delivery and the postpartum.
Initiate and carry out medically acceptable emergencyprocedures when complications arise until the physician arrives to manage thecomplication.
Provide collaborative care for patients whose medical orobstetrical status dictates direct physician involvement in the care andtreatment of the patient but whose overall status is acceptable for midwiferymanagement.
Maintains current and develops future theoretical andtechnical competencies regarding OB/GYN, primary care, emergency medicine,family planning.
Provide interconceptional and gynecological services to womenwho request preventative health care.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
