The Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) is an active member of the behavioral health outpatient team and provides peer support services to people with severe and persistent mental illnesses in the behavioral health service line.
Under supervision of the program manager, clinical supervisor, or program director the CPSS will function as a role model to peers; exhibiting competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills; serve as a consumer advocate, providing consumer information and peer support for people in outpatient and/or inpatient settings.
The CPSS performs a wide range of tasks to assist peers of all ages in regaining independence within the community and mastery over their own recovery process. Recovery resources such as booklets, tapes, pamphlets, educational videos, and other written materials will be utilized by the CPSS in the provision of peer services.EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or equivalent, Required
Preferred: Associates or Bachelor's DegreeEXPERIENCE:
Required: Minimum 2 years' experience working with individuals who have serious mental illness, substance use disorders, and/or intellectual/developmental disorders OR equivalent combination of higher education and experience.
Preferred: 2-3 years of outpatient mental health experience working with individuals who have serious mental illness, substance use disorders, and/or intellectual/developmental disorders.LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
Drivers License | Valid Drivers License
BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist certification.
Seizure Response Training or Attestation within 30 days of hire.
