JOB SUMMARY:
TheNeonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) coordinates, delegates and provides primarypatient care to patients in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) under thesupervision of the Neonatal Service physicians. Medical acts performed by theNNP will be those allowed by the rules and regulations governing nursepractitioners practicing in the NICU.
EDUCATION:
Completion of a neonatal nurse practitioner education program approved by thestate of North Carolina (certificate program or master's program)
EXPERIENCE:
Required:2 years of NICU RN experience
Preferred: NNP Experience

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
REQUIRED
Eligibility for approval by the North Carolina Board of Nursing/North CarolinaBoard of Medical Examiners
Certified as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or eligible to obtain certificationwithin one year of hire (National Certification Corporation)
NRP
BLS (CPR) | AHA Health Care Provider BLS
NP licensure in the State of NC
DEA License
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Applies advancedknowledge and clinical expertise to accomplish optimal patient outcomes.Conducts expert clinical assessments in uncomplicated, complex and crisissituations. Directs multidisciplinary team in development and implementation ofcare of patients and families. Is an advocate for families.

Demonstratesaccountability for/promotes own professional growth and development

Demonstrates integrity,commitment, competency and communication skills while serving as a coach androle model to others

Provides diagnosis andtreatment to infants in the NICU in order to meet Hospital guidelines.Initiates and carries out medically acceptable emergency procedures ifcomplications arise until the physician is notified for guidance and/or arrivesto assist with management of the complication

Provides leadership for the development and maintenance of clinical standards,policies and procedures and quality improvement programs by assisting with unitand Hospital based teams/committees. Implements practice changes which improveefficiency and effectiveness of care based on evidence. Precepts NNP studentsand new NNPs based on approved guidelines and protocols
