Outreach Educator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing a wide array of outreach programs aimed at reducing the spread of HIV, other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and hepatitis C across Alamance, Caswell, and Rockingham counties.
Outreach educator must be able to work occasionally outside of 8:00 am-5:00 pm hours.EDUCATION:
Bachelor's Degree in a human services field, such as public health or social workEXPERIENCE:
Minimum two years of experience working within one or more of the following areas: HIV, sexual health, community health education, community outreach, or other relevant areaLICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
Drivers License | Valid Drivers License
North Carolina Whetstone HIV Counseling, Testing, and Referral Training certification
OraQuick Advance HIV or HCV Rapid Testing certification
Syphilis Health Check Rapid Testing certification
Health Coaching Certificate
Community Health Education Specialist (CHES)ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Providerapid result screening tests for HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis C in a variety ofoutreach settings.
Provideone-on-one and group educational programs surrounding sexual health andinfection prevention.
Coordinateand provide outreach events across Alamance, Caswell, and Rockingham counties.
Implementevidence-based interventions aimed at improving HIV prevention and connectionto care among high risk populations.
Cultivateand maintain partnerships with a variety of community organizations andcontinually seek new venues at which to provide outreach services.
Participatein implementation of a Syringe Service Program (SSP) in Alamance County.
Assistclients with referrals to treatment and/or care as needed.
Maintainrecords and complete required reports in a timely manner.
Stay up to date with information surrounding the prevention of HIV, other STIs, and hepatitis C.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Considerable knowledge of HIV, other sexually transmitted infections (STIs),and hepatitis C, including disease processes and treatment
Knowledgeand understanding of health education principles, techniques, and practices
Abilityto foster and maintain collaborative relationships
Ability to work withindividuals and groups in a culturally competent manner
