Financial Counselors are responsible for providing support to the Financial Counseling Department by screening patients for potential Medicaid eligibility, assessing the need/eligibility for financial assistance, setting up payment arrangements, and communicating information pertaining to patient insurance benefits in by phone, in office, or at bedside system wide. The Financial Counselor may be responsible for performing cashier functions, verifying insurance benefits, obtaining pre-authorization/pre-certification when necessary, and collecting applicable co-pays and/or deductibles. Financial Counselors anticipate and act on the needs of customers and teammates to enhance the experience within the department. The Financial Counselor also promotes patient satisfaction, serving as a liaison on behalf of the hospital and patients.EDUCATION:
Required: High School Diploma or equivalent
Preferred: Associate Degree or Certification in Health Care AdministrationEXPERIENCE:
Required: 2 years in a human service or public service related role
Preferred: 2 years medical office or healthcare setting, medical terminology, 1 year healthcare customer service
