JOB DETAILS:
Exempt: No | FTE: Per Diem | Schedule: On call minimum 24 hours month | On Call: YES

JOB SUMMARY:

Facilitates compassionate patient care to victims of sexual assault. Presents testimony regarding victims' injuries during criminal prosecutions for sex offenses. Collaborates with and provides direction for staff to establish and maintain clinical standards. Collaborates with SANE Program Coordinator for overall program operation and vision, and serves as a liaison with other community agencies.

EDUCATION:

Required - Graduate of a RN Educational Program; Baccalaureate in Nursing within 4 years of hire.

EXPERIENCE:

Required - Relevant RN/FNE clinical experience including Emergency Nursing or OB/GYN clinical settings. Minimum 3 years nursing experience.

Preferred - Experience in leadership, counseling, and education.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
REQUIRED
Required - Current Valid North Carolina Registered Nurse License; Completion of a sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE) training program that meets the Forensic Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Education Guidelines established by the International Association of Forensic Nurses.
Preferred - SANE-A Certification and completion of a DVNE course preferred.

PREFERRED
Required - BLS - AHA Health Care Provider (CPR)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Applies specialized knowledge and training to accomplish optimal patient outcomes. Ensures the implementation and coordination of a 24-hour on-call system of FNEs in collaboration with the SANE Program Coordinator and hospital staff, law enforcement, and patient advocates. Conduct physical and forensic examination of individuals experiencing sexual assault for the purposes of detecting injury/disease and collecting evidence to be used in prosecution of the case during on-call hours via current standards of practice. Establish and coordinate a multidisciplinary community-based Sexual Assault Response Team (SART), which provides compassionate and timely treatment to sexual assault victims. Facilitate individuals in receiving necessary medical screening and attention, securing crisis intervention and prevention services. Procure necessary funding for ongoing program operation. Includes the patient, significant others, and other health care providers in data collection. Assures interventions are consistent with plan of care. Implements interventions in a manner to maintain patient dignity, privacy, and safety. Demonstrates skillful responses to patient, family, colleague's needs based on the specific need and the particular context of the situation. Documents interventions and ongoing evaluations of patient response to interventions. Identifies variances to expected outcomes and intervenes to make system changes to optimize patient outcomes. Assists the patient and significant others in identifying and securing appropriate services and educational opportunities available to address health-related needs. Manages the patient toward anticipated outcomes and provides a time estimate which assures continuity of care.

Provides secondary leadership in collaboration with the SANE Program Coordinator for clinical standards, policies and procedures, and quality assurance program. Promotes departmental philosophy. Assists in the development of program/clinical goals and objectives. Monitors program/clinical outcomes. Collect, process and maintain appropriate chain of custody of both clinical and non-clinical evidence and necessary records. Perform quality assurance reviews on patient records. Gather and maintain statistical program data. Develop and utilize follow-up tool measuring patient satisfaction with services received. Oversee ongoing program evaluation and research activities and ensure that the results of these efforts are incorporated into modifying and improving the program. Responsible for reporting programmatic outcomes to leadership and financial contributors. Recommends options to enhance program/clinical outcomes. Monitors/reports compliance with departmental policies and procedures. Coordinates departmental orientation, continuing education and clinical development.
