Performs direct patient care based on the requests and needs as specified by patient and family, being age appropriate. Provides personal attention for patients that is conducive to recovery by providing assistance with activities of daily living: bathing, shaving, mouth care, skin care and progressive mobility. Obtains accurate vital signs and documents in timely manner. Reports findings outside normal parameters to nurse for appropriate intervention. Keeps licensed staff informed of all responsibilities on an ongoing bases, ensuring prompt notification in the event of a problem or potential problem. Addresses patientï¿s½ quality of life issues in relationship to nutrition/hydration/elimination by: Providing assistance with meal set-up and/or feeds patients as needed, distributing nutritional supplements and snacks according to patients plan of care, monitor and document intake and output accurately and notifying RN staff of observations as appropriate (i.e. no bowel movement, diarrhea, concentrated urine), empties foley catheters at end of shift and as needed. Performs intentional hourly rounding and anticipates patient needs. Responds to needs of all patients on the unit, not just in assigned group. Mother-Baby/Acute Care and Procedural Nursery (MBU/ACPN)
Department Description - The Mother Baby Unit (MBU) is a family-centered patient care department composed of forty-eight private rooms located on the first floor. Twenty-eight beds make up MBU-East and twenty beds make up MBU-West. Both units are U-shaped. MBU provides care of the newborn, antepartum, and postpartum patients whose diagnosis include stable antenatal, postpartum vaginal and cesarean section delivery, newborn infants requiring prolonged stay for hyperbilirubinemia or problems which allow mother to stay with the infant.
The Acute Care and Procedural Nursery (ACPN) is located at the entrance to the Mother Baby Unit and is designed to provide space for special procedures for newborns. Newborns requiring additional interventions, e.g. radiant warmer for temperature instability, or infants requiring closer monitoring of blood glucose or additional oxygen support may be held in the Acute Care area while determination of level of care required. The ACPN is L-shaped located on the first floor.
Population/Clients Served - MBU and ACPN provides care to the high volume population which includes: postpartum-vaginal and cesarean section deliveries, newborn infants, stable antenatal patients not requiring continuous monitoring, and some gynecological surgeries; and to high risk/problem prone populations which include: pregnancy induced-HELLP Syndrome complications, newborns less than thirty-seven weeks gestation, diabetes in pregnancy, preterm premature rupture of membranes, and partial abruption. Age groups served are infants, female adolescents and adult women.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
