Radiology Technology, Respiratory Therapy, or asanctioned Cardiovascular Technology Program

Required:
BLS (CPR) - AHA Health Care Provider BLS
Driver's License - NC DRIVER'S LICENSE

Required:
Radiology Technologist - Unencumbered ASRTRadiology Technologist licensure, or
Respiratory Therapist - Unencumbered NorthCarolina Respiratory Care Board Licensure, or
Cardiovascular Technology Program - Graduatefrom an accredited Cardiovascular Program, or
Paramedic - Unencumbered North Carolina EMT-Pcredentialing/accreditation and/or Paramedic Associate Degree from acredentialed and qualified Paramedic program

Cardiac Cath Lab Technologists who work in theCardiac Cath Lab area must obtain their Registered Cardiovascular InvasiveSpecialist (RCIS) within 24 months of hire for continued employment.
Cardiac Cath Lab Technologists who work in theElectrophysiology Lab area must obtain their Registered CardiovascularElectrophysiology Specialist (RCES) within 24 months of hire for continuedemployment.
Cardiac Cath Lab Technologists who work in thePeripheral Vascular Lab area are exempt from obtaining RCIS or RCES.

Graduates from a Cardiovascular Program arerequired to complete RCIS certification within 3 months of employment.

American Heart Association Health Care Providercourse (BLS) preferred or should be completed within 6 months of hire.

Preferred:
ACLS to be completed within 6 months of hire.

JOB SUMMARY:
Personnel in this position are responsiblefor providing direct patient care in the Cardiac Cath lab, Peripheralvascular lab, Cath lab Holding Room, and the Electrophysiology lab. Personnelin this position are responsible for performing and functioning as a member ofa multidisciplinary team. In addition, personnel are expected tofunction and provide high quality, safe, culturally competent costeffective patient care in all areas of operations by means of assessment,planning, evaluation, and intervention/follow up.

MAJOR WORK ACTIVITIES:
Collect data that is pertinent to thepatientï¿s½ status; Anticipate and recognize subtle changes in the patientï¿s½status; Implements interventions in a manner to maintain patientï¿s½ dignity,privacy, and safety; Responds to the patient, family, or members of themultidisciplinary team in a skillful, intentional manner to demonstrate concernand addresses the particular need of the patient; Identifies variances toexpected outcomes and intervenes appropriately to maximize positive patientoutcomes; **May administer medications used in invasive procedures under thedirect supervision of a physician. Medications include intravenous fluid,contrast media, and moderate sedation. 10 %

Participates in Departmental Support ActivitiesRelated to Cath Lab operations: Recognizes the significance of support dutiesthat ultimately improve daily operations, accomplishes departmental goals andenhances overall team performance. 10 %

Performs Circulating Duties: Provides effectivecare during elective and emergency procedures by assisting patients,physicians, and scrub technicians in a prioritized fashion, assuring that allneeds are completely satisfied. 10 %

Performs Control Room Duties: Maintains aworking knowledge of the principles, practices and proceduresinvolved in the operation of physiologic monitoring, angiographic/fluoroscopicimaging and digital analysis. 10 %

Performs Device Implant Duties 10 %

Performs Diagnostic Scrub Duties. 10 %

Performs Holding Room Duties/Sheath removal inother departments as needed (to include IABP and Impella removal) 10 %

Performs Interventional Scrub Duties: Act as afirst assistant in the scrub role of diagnostic, interventional, and acuteprocedures. Maintains asepsis throughout the course of the procedure. Respondsquickly and appropriately in emergencies. Displays effectiveutilization of supplies and equipment. 10 %

Performs Peripheral Vascular Duties 10 %

Occurs under one-third of the time - Fumes orairborne particles
Occurs over two-thirds of the time - Exposure tobloodborne pathogens | Hazardous waste and/or toxic/caustic chemicals

EXPERIENCE:
Required:
1 - 2 years of Respiratory Therapy experience,or
1 - 2 years of Radiology Technical experience,or
2 years Paramedic experience
Preferred:
Cardiac specialty experience

Ability to work in areas of radiation exposurefor long periods, using proper radiation protective gear/equipment
Ability to use computer keyboards, visualizemonitors and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity
Able to think critically, independently, andapply abilities to achieve the best possible patient outcomes

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Very Heavy Work:
Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of forceoccasionally (up to 1/3 of the time), and/or; in excess of 50 pounds offorce frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of the time), and/or; in excess of 20 poundsof force constantly (2/3 or more of the time) to lift, carry, push, pull,or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Respirator Fit Testing - Required

HEARING/VISION:
Hear and differentiate low volume sounds inorder to make judgments regarding actions needed
Hear alarm bells, verbal conversations,telephone voices and normal volume sounds
