This position is accountable to work under the supervision of a registered pharmacist and assist in the various activities of the pharmacy department in order to provide quality patient care in a designated setting. Candidates have the ability to foster a top-tier employee engagement culture throughout Cone Health. Certified pharmacy technician specialists have prior experience in hospital settings to include various roles within distributive and medication history roles. This role requires advanced leadership qualities and experience, given the additional responsibility to take ownership of department training, competency assessment, and project assignments that go beyond the certified technician role.
A certified pharmacy technician specialist (CPTS):
1. Is cross trained and demonstrates, in both written and verbal form, expert proficiency and competency in a highly specialized or diverse pharmacy practice model.
2. In conjunction with the pharmacist manager or his/her designee, is responsible for:
a. the operational oversight in a highly specialized or diverse pharmacy practice model.
b. the quality, regulatory, and compliance oversight in a highly specialized or diverse pharmacy practice model.
c. a longitudinal process improvement project(s) in a highly specialized or diverse pharmacy practice model.EDUCATION:
Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: Associate degree in pharmacy technology or other healthcare related degree.EXPERIENCE:
Required: Certified pharmacy technician experience in hospital setting for at least six months.LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
• Pharmacy technician certification through PTCB or NHA prior to hire
• Registered with the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy within 30 days of hire
*Must satisfactorily complete required testing: basic mathematics competency annually, aseptic technique [if required], maintain PTCB certification, medication history-taking competency*
